From Pharmacy to Farmacy: Confession from a Pharmacist gone Naturopathic

I have a confession to make in today’s blog post. Ready? Here it goes-- I love what I do.

How many people can say that they truly love their work? How many people are doing the work that they know they are destined to do in their heart?

Now, this confession may not sound all that shocking, but here’s the thing: I used to be deeply concerned about my future and pursuing work that I loved. When I was completing my doctorate in pharmacy, I started to look into other career options out there like research, academia or administration. I found myself dismissing each option as either boring, unfulfilling, incongruent with my values, or limiting of my abilities. How would I utilize what I learned as a pharmacist to help others in a way that was aligned with my own beliefs in integrative medicine?

It wasn’t until I discovered naturopathic medicine that I finally was able to experience a deep sense of relief and peace about my future. It was exactly how I wanted to help others. The reason I bring this up is because I see that many of my patients are not doing work that they love… and I think this is a MAJOR reason why their health is less than optimal.

How about you? Do you feel uplifted, inspired, and fully engaged going to work every day? Or does your work leave you feeling depleted, anxious, bored, or empty in your life? It’s generally going to be one or the other, right?

What I want to suggest to you is this: If you’re not doing what you love, life is too short to tolerate this for any lengthy period of time. You deserve more than this. Even more so, until your work aligns with your deeper purpose and values, your health will NEVER be at the level you want it to be. You can eat all of the organic food, get all of the exercise, and do all of the stress reduction techniques you want-- if you’re not passionate about your daily work, there will always be a hole in the foundation of your health.

A big reason why I love what I do is that I’m in a position to help people like you really take control of their health and life on all levels. Nothing makes me happier than seeing my patients make lifestyle changes that empower them and lead to more fulfillment and well-being. This IS possible for you!
